Wireless Network Engineer (Ashburn, Virginia

Position Summary: The role of the Wireless Network Engineer is to support DSI clients’ wireless network solutions. The Wireless Network Engineer is responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, and supporting LAN, WAN, and Cisco Wireless infrastructures for all assigned clients. Will provide high-level technical support for wireless and data network systems, create and maintain network documentation, and work projects as needed in order to upgrade to new and/or improved communication equipment and procedures. This position requires excellent problem management and customer service skills.

Position Responsibilities

  • Perform remote and on-site client consultation: plan, design, implement, and support the wireless infrastructure
  • Develop and implement the technical architecture and physical design of the network: analyze existing wireless, voice, and data networks and recommend solutions
  • Set up, configure, and test Cisco wireless solutions
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, upgrade, and provide solutions to complex hardware/software problems
  • Assist Account Executives during the sales process by educating the customer about new technologies
  • Act as a Cisco Subject Matter Expert to customers and internal staff
  • Assist in the management of projects
  • Ensure a stable performance environment for enterprise computer applications
  • Must be comfortable working in a demanding environment where client satisfaction is our goal
  • Direct the work of other technical team members and subcontractors
  • Work is performed with minimal supervision by senior management

Qualifications / Skills / Knowledge

  • Preferred experience with Ekahau or Air Magnet (wireless site survey tools)
  • Strong experience with network design and configuration as well as with layer 2, 3, and 4 technologies
  • Preferred certifications: CCNA or CCNP wireless (or working towards certification)
  • Three to five years of experience in Cisco wireless infrastructure/network environments, with some experience in network engineering (hardware and software), network security practices and designing, planning and implementing LANs and WANs
  • Bachelor’s degree in technology (preferred) from a four-year accredited University or College such as: BS in Technology, BS in Electronics and Communication, BS in Electrical Engineering, BS in Mechanical Engineering, BS in Computer Science, OR you hold an Associate’s degree in a technical field related to network engineering
  • Comfortable working in a demanding environment where client satisfaction is the ultimate goal
  • Team player with good customer service and communication skills
  • You have a sense of humor and enjoy working in a team-oriented office environment
  • Must have the ability to lift 50–60 pounds on a regular and daily basis
  • Must have the ability to climb ladders in a safe manner
  • Excellent English verbal communications and written documentation skills are required; must have the capability to write SOWs (Statement of Work) and respond to technical requirements for RFPs (Request for Proposals)
  • Expert Knowledge of TCP/IP protocols, routing , subnets, and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge transfer and working well within a team are success essentials
